From the days of early hip-hop culture, I have had the privilege to witness, learn and contribute as well as wanting to contribute, to its growth and success abroad but more importantly at home.
The title “Pens and Needles” is a play of hip-hop’s foundation know as “MCs & DJs”.
When we first started producing the show, the foundation was the MC and DJ. And still is. However, the demand to air more aspects of a party, like its patrons, began to take precedence.
With 3 years on the air and a host of public access awards, PnN is one of the New York City’s most anticipated weekly shows on broadcast media.
Through the past few years and tons of functions, PnN has had the privilege to host many parties, as well as interview a whole host of stars. Celebrities that have made appearances on PnN are: LL Cool J, Donnell Jones, Trey Songz, Nice and Smooth, Cool DJ Red Alert, Capone “The Gangsta of Comedy”, Easy Mo B, Keyshia Cole, 2 Pistols, Manny Hastings (Keyshia Cole's manager), DJ Kid Capri, JD Williams (The Wire), Grand Master Flash, Melle Mel, Grand Master Caz, Sugar Hill Gang, and a host of many more.
As well as a whole host of well-known DJ’s, Night Club Owners, Promoters, Athletes and Entertainers.
When PnN first launched in the Bronx, January 2005, I don't think any of us involved thought that we would have such an impact on this game and in this culture of hip-hop. Now heading into our 8th year, we are on 3 stations in 3 boroughs in the world’s greatest city, New York. With the city behind us all the way, it seems it is our responsibility to give the public an option to watch other people's lives of fame and fortune on reality shows OR be their own reality and join in with us as we join in on the fun with them.
